GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE OF ART!

UC DAVIS’ NELSON AND MU GALLERIES UNVEIL SIX, EXHIBITION OF GRADUATING MASTERS OF FINE ARTS STUDENTS

What is going on behind the intimidating walls of the studios of art students at UC Davis? A peak behind the curtains is available for three weeks, May 30-June 20, 2008, when the work of six graduating students, all receiving their MFA degrees this spring, will be on view. “It is always a highlight of my year to see the hard work of faculty, staff and especially these young artists culminate in a highly professional, fascinating and unpredictable exhibition,” says Renny Pritikin, director of the Richard L. Nelson Gallery and the Fine Arts Collection.

On view at the Nelson will be ceramic sculpture by Mary Alison Lucas, an architectural installation by Caroline Cloak, a multimedia installation by Nickolas Mohanna, and a photo and text wall installation by LissaIvy Tiegel. At the MU will be paintings by Chau Thuy Huynh and paper works by Irman Arcibal. A catalogue with color plates and essays by Renny Pritikin and Hearne Pardee, studio art faculty member, accompanies the exhibition and will be on sale.

The opening of the exhibition will be staggered, starting at 5 pm at the MU until 7 pm, then from 6 to 8 pm at the Nelson. The MU gallery is located on the second floor of the Memorial Union building. The Nelson is in room 124 of the art building.
